Description:

From the bestselling author of classics like Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny comes a Christmas story sure to delight generations of new readers, re-illustrated in 2016 by the beloved Llama Llama creator, Anna Dewdney.

In this reissued edition by Margaret Wise Brown, Christmas in the Barn tells a childlike interpretation of the Nativity story with all-new full-color illustrations from New York Times bestselling illustrator Anna Dewdney, creator of the Llama Llama series.

Notes:

Anna Dewdney was the author/illustrator of the New York Times bestselling LLAMA LLAMA series, among others. All her books are written in verse, and her work focuses on the emotional experiences of the small child in a big person's world. Ms. Dewdney was thrilled and honored to be illustrating the work of Margaret Wise Brown, whom she always felt was a kindred spirit.

From Anna’s editor @ HC:

Anna Dewdney. Margaret Wise Brown. This is a pairing that an editor could only dream about. This Fall, I am so proud to be publishing a reissue of CHRISTMAS IN THE BARN.

There was a time when one could say I stalked Anna Dewdney. I was such a huge fan and I wanted nothing more than to work with her. It was proving to be a bit of a challenge and as time passed, it was looking less and less likely that I would ever get my wish. It was then, I realized one important thing. I had something that we here at Harper could give to Anna. And that was Margaret Wise Brown.

Anna was quite simply blown away about the possibility of re- illustrating a Margaret Wise Brown text and as we got to work, I realized how incredibly special this project was for her. As a children’s book illustrator, this opportunity was a gift – each page was a tribute to the woman who had created some of the most classic books for children of all time and she wanted to make sure she got it right.

And she did.

Anna’s artwork perfectly complements the text and the simplicity of the words on the page. She invites the reader into the barn. Her beautiful paintings and breathtaking images tell this important and meaningful story in such a loving and meaningful way.

So as much as this project was a gift for Anna, it was also a gift for me – one that I will treasure forever. I hope that this holiday season it will be a gift for your readers as well.

Christmas in the Barn, reissued anew with “winning illustrations” is in the Shelf Awareness round-up of “Irresistible Gifts for Kids and Teens”: “A charming, truly preschooler-friendly addition to the Christmas picture-book shelf.”

“Dewdney’s striking, mixed-media paintings have a loose, post-impressionistic flavor … A gift worth celebrating.
