Andrea Alban is a native San Franciscan raised in a neighborhood teeming with big backyards and adventurous children. She cultivated her appreciation of nature during solo walks near the family summer home in the pine forests of Lake Tahoe. On her sixth birthday, she self-published her first poetry book—a handlettered scroll tied with red ribbon. At high school graduation, her creative writing teacher awarded her the Bank of America English Achievement Award. The framed certificate still hangs in her writing room as a beacon for her creative journey. Andrea has worn many entrepreneurial hats—from owning a natural food store to producing large scale events for the National Parks Association, the Salvation Army, and the American Heart Association.
Andrea is the author of nine books, including her debut YA novel ANYA’S WAR (an ALA honor book and shortlisted for China’s Panda Award), and bestseller THE HAPPINESS TREE (a featured book in the OUT ON A LIMB exhibit touring children's museums throughout the United States). She speaks at literary festivals, writer’s conferences, and at schools. Andrea is the founder of WRITER’S TRIBE™ A Feedback Circle for Children’s Writers. She maintains a private consultancy editing manuscripts and guiding writers through the revision process. She earned her B.A. cum laude in Creative Writing from SFSU.
