Marie Boyd
Marie is a writer, quilling artist, and educator. She cuts, coils, and curls narrow strips of paper and uses them to meticulously construct colorful illustrations that literally come off of the page. She views her work as occupying a space between collage and relief sculpture.
She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, being outside, and cooking for family and friends. These joys are reflected in her illustrations and writing. She particularly enjoys depicting the natural world in quilling and is interested in exploring the relationships and boundaries between science and art. Her work engages with themes of self-expression and affirmation, and of the appreciation and preservation of nature.
Originally from Salt Lake City, she lives in Columbia, South Carolina with her husband and two kids. She has a degree in Chemistry from Harvard and a law degree from Yale.
