Lisa Johnston Hancock

Lisa Johnston Hancock is a children's book illustrator and artist. With her iPad and Photoshop, she blends digital and traditional elements to create textural, whimsical illustrations inspired by flora and fauna, ecology and long walks around her neighborhood.  As a child she spent time exploring the forests of Alabama, identifying every creature that she would come into contact with. She has always had an appreciation for children's books especially those depicting the natural world, collecting them even today. Her award winning illustrations have appeared in art galleries, on book covers, magazines and in picture books such as Yellow-Speckled Blackbird and Sophie’s New Song. She graduated with a B.F.A. from the University of Alabama and an M.F.A. from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her background is in Art Education, as an Adjunct Professor, High School teacher, workshop and summer camp instructor. She regularly participates in critique groups through SCBWI and is on the volunteer committee for her local SoCal chapter. She calls the Los Angeles area home, with her husband and two children.
