Alma Fullerton

In all of her Work – full of rhythmic lines and the sound scape of life – award-winning Alma Fullerton introduces children to cultures different from their own in a way that is engaging and full of relatable emotions. To that end, Alma’s free-verse novels for juvenile and young adult readers have earned her multiple nominations and awards, including the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Award and the CLA Book of the Year Honor. Alma is equally talented as a picture book author. In a Cloud of Dust won the Rainforest of Reading Award, was nominated for the OLA Blue Spruce Award, and was a Foreword Magazine Best Children’s Books of Fall 2015 selection.

And now, Alma’s most recent picture book, When the Rain Comes, is getting rave reviews, including a starred Kirkus and a call-out from Elizabeth Bird.

Alma Fullerton was born in Ottawa Ontario, as one of seven children. Her dad was in the military so they moved often. Being dyslexic, she couldn't read until grade four and didn't enjoy reading at all until grade nine, when she discovered books that she really loved. Now that she is as an award-winning author, Alma visits schools to teach children that they, too, can overcome any obstacle.
