Antoinette Portis

Children's Author

Antoinette is the creator of many inventive books for children. She made her picture-book debut with the NYT best-selling Not A Box, an ALA Seuss Geisel Honor Book, and one of the New York Times Ten Best Illustrated Books of the Year. Her other award-winning books include A Penguin Story, also a NYT Best Illustrated Book, Hey, Water!, a Sibert Honor book, and A New Green Day, a JLG selection, a PW Best Book of the Year as well as a Horn Book Best Book of 2020.

Her most recent works include I’m Up and I’m Still Up, board-book odes to a baby’s joy at waking up – and staying up. Coming soon is A Seed Grows, a nonfiction picture book marking Antoinette’s eighth collaboration with Neal Porter.

Antoinette got a BFA at the UCLA School of Fine Arts and then spent years in the world of design and advertising. She was a creative director, then a VP, at Disney before she took a flying leap to pursue her sixth-grade dream of writing and illustrating picture books. And we’re honored and lucky that she did.

A recipient of the Prestigious Sendak Fellowship, she lives in Southern California where she hopes to soon get back to reading and drawing with kids in local school classrooms.
