Jeanne Walker Harvey
Ever since she was a child, Jeanne dreamed of being a children’s book author. Now, as an award-winning author, she’s living her dream. But along the way Jeanne has had many jobs, ranging from working as a roller coaster ride operator to an attorney for high-tech companies to a middle school Language Arts teacher. She studied literature and psychology at Stanford University and volunteered for many years at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as a school group docent, Sausalito Library’s Board of Trustees, the local public school library, the county literacy program, and Sonoma Valley Museum of Art Board of Trustees.
Jeanne currently lives north of San Francisco in Sonoma, California. When she previously lived in Sausalito, she often watched the activity out on the Bay and wrote Boats on the Bay (which was read aloud online by California governor’s First Partner, Jennifer Siebel Newsom).
Jeanne’s most recent picture book biography is The Glass Pyramid: A Story of the Louvre Pyramid and Architect I.M. Pei illustrated by Khoa Le (Atheneum, 2025).
Jeanne's other lyrical nonfiction picture books about artists and creative people include Else B. in the Sea: The Woman Who Painted the Wonders of the Deep illustrated by Melodie Stacey(Cameron/Abrams); Dressing Up the Stars: The Story of Movie Costume Designer Edith Head illustrated by Diana Toledano (Beach Lane Books); Ablaze with Color: A Story of Painter Alma Thomas illustrated by Loveis Wise (HarperCollins); Maya Lin: Architect Of Light And Lines: Designer Of The Vietnam Veterans Memorial illustrated by Dow Phumiruk (Henry Holt) and My Hands Sing The Blues: Romare Bearden’s Childhood Journey … and two about rescued marine mammals: Honey Girl: The Hawaiian Monk Seal and Astro: The Steller Sea Lion.
When not writing (with her adopted cat as her companion), Jeanne enjoys spending time with family and friends, dancing in Zumba class, gardening and growing flowers, hiking, visiting modern art museums, exploring new places, and eating chocolate in all forms.
