From LOOK WHAT I SEE, by Judi Barrett (Little Simon)

Throughout his career, Ron has used several forms of media — from pen and ink in CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS to watercolor in CATS GET FAMOUS and CATS GOT TALENT to coquille board and digital color in LOOK WHAT I SEE. He takes great pleasure in drawing with pencil on coquille board, a tonal medium used in the past by editorial cartoonists. The textured board allows him to create sculptural effects in greys, then overlay them with Photoshop color. This gives him both the freedom of rendering with pencil and the control of the digital medium, and helps him create a modern look with a classic feel.

“…terrific pictures, with their crisp outlines, yellow-orange hues, dramatic lighting, and cross-hatching, hearken back to the comic book art of the 1950s…”
