Antoinette Portis

Children's Author

Antoinette Portis' picture books inhabit, as Antoinette does in all her stories, the magical terrain of imagination. Yes; she thinks “outside the box,” where anything and everything is possible. And the magic continues, as only Antoinette can deliver, in her picture books published by Neal Porter at his Roaring Brook imprint for Macmillan: Froodle (spring 2014), Wait (spring 2015), Best Frints (May 2016) and Now (May 2017).

Sendak-fellow Antoinette Portis is the author and illustrator of the New York Times bestselling Not a Box (a New York Times Best Illustrated Book and a 2007 Theodore Seuss Geisel Honor Book), Not a Stick (a New York Times bestseller), A Penguin Story (also chosen as a New York Times Best Illustrated Book), Kindergarten Diary, and Princess Super Kitty.

Antoinette got a BFA at the UCLA School of Fine Arts and then spent years in the world of design and advertising. She was a creative director, then a vice president, at Disney Consumer Products before she took the big leap to pursue her sixth-grade dream of writing and illustrating children’s books. Antoinette lives in Southern California and reads and draws with kids in local schools.
