Janet Nolan

Children's Author

Janet Nolan knows how lucky she is. She gets to spend her day crafting sentences, word by wonderful word. When writing fiction, she can’t think of anything more fun than creating characters, imagining settings, pondering plots and finding the right words to describe it all. When writing nonfiction, she loves the challenge of going beyond the facts to find a story’s deeper meaning.

Janet writes fiction, nonfiction and historical fiction picture books. Her most recent title, Seven and a Half Tons of Steel (Peachtree Publishing), was on the ILA 2017 Teachers’ Choice Reading list, was a Junior Library Guild Selection, and won many state awards.

Janet has two adult children and she lives in Oak Park, Illinois with her husband and their dog, Ladybug, who enjoys long, rambling walks as much as she does. She has a B.A. from The Evergreen State College and a master’s degree in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Janet is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
