Kathy Fork
Kathy Fork spent much of her childhood up a tree or in a book. (Sometimes both at once!) She was convinced that someday she’d find a portal to a magical world. Eventually, Kathy realized those portals were the very books she’d been reading. She grew up, but never outgrew children’s literature.
After double-majoring in English and Psychology at Stanford University and earning a Master’s degree in Teaching, Kathy became an elementary school teacher. She later earned her MLIS and transitioned to school librarianship. After many years of working with kids and books, she decided to get serious about the stories she’d been writing in her spare time. In 2022, she graduated with an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. While there, Kathy won the 2021 Candlewick Picture Book Award for best picture book manuscript.
A Jersey girl at heart, Kathy has called the San Francisco Bay Area home for the past 25 years. She lives in the woodlands of Marin with her daughter and a Frenchie who is part pig, part bat, and part alien. When she’s not writing, she’s usually cooking or hiking while listening to Dolly Parton or a kidlit podcast. She still opens every wardrobe she comes across…just in case.
