Chris Gorman

Chris Gorman is a visionary and, as the drummer for alt-rock, Grammy-nominated band Belly, literally a rock star.  And now, he’s “rocking on” in the world of children’s books. With a style that has the feel of a digital update of Robert McCloskey’s work, Chris draws inspiration from his own kids, sharing the challenges and successes of every-day life through arresting, bold images, spare text and in-your-face type.

In his latest book, ONE OF A KIND, Chris tells the story of a kid who loves to express himself in his very own unique way. Designed with vibrant color construction, full of energy and emotion, this “must have” (according to SLJ) was called out in the NYT, featured in Billboard and in THE ORIGINAL ART 2018. As in his picture book debut, INDI SURFS, Chris alters B&W photographic images, created with camera and computers,  to make striking halftones with rich black shadows.

After graduating from Clark University with a BFA, Chris spent almost a decade in the music industry, followed by 15  years as a photographer in NYC, providing services to a wide variety of clients on a range of subject matter – from product and fashion to chainsaw wielding chimpanzees. Now, Chris is back in his home state of Rhode Island, surfing and creating, in the company of his wife and kids.
