Joey Spiotto

NYT-bestselling illustrator Joey Spiotto—"I make happy art for happy people" (except for maybe when he is grumpy)—is the author and illustrator of the breakout fan favorite Grumpy Unicorn franchise (Scholastic). Launched by GRUMPY UNICORN: WHY ME?, these hilarious comic collections (including board book adventures of BABY Grumpy) are cantankerously clever and addictively adorable.

His first picture book collaboration, LITTLE TROUBLEMAKER MAKES A MESS (Philomel Books), written by three-times NYT bestselling author and noted speaker Luvvie Ajayi Jones., was—out of the gate—an immediate NYT bestseller. Joey is also the creator of the wildly popular ALIEN NEXT DOOR (Titan Books)—"every bit as adorable, and darkly humorous, as you might think" (BookRiot)—based on the classic film franchise “Alien.”

Joey is a regularly featured artist at the world-famous Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, where he’s had several solo art exhibitions. Through the gallery, Joey’s artwork has been commissioned by some of Hollywood's most talented filmmakers, actors, comedians, and musicians, including JJ Abrams, Joss Whedon, Conan O’Brien, Vince Gilligan, Weird Al Yankovic, and Edgar Wright. In addition, he has created artwork for LucasFilm (as below), Disney, Marvel, Microsoft, Rare, Loot Crate, and more.

After graduating with a degree in Illustration from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Joey went on to work as a concept artist in the film and video game industry. His resume includes the holiday classic The Polar Express (Warner Bros.) as well as Dead Space, The Sims and more from Electronic Arts.

Joey lives in Southern California with his wife, two very energetic young kids, and one very sleepy old dog. He loves to draw, read, play video games, garden, and go for long walks amongst some other mundane things. For more of his work, visit joeyspiotto.com or follow him on Instagram @jo3bot.
