Luciana Navarro Powell

Luciana Navarro Powell never misses an opportunity to bring other cultures to her work. That's partly because she is an immigrant, and partly because she considers showing diverse and inclusive viewpoints to be absolutely essential now, more than ever before.

In the beginning of her career, Luciana worked with watercolor and acrylic paints, but eventually settled with the digital brush. She loves the freedom that comes with digital art, and all the possibilities of experimentation with different textures. Nowadays, she works with mixed media. She still uses watercolor but mixes it with photographs and scanned objects. This "melting digital pot" allows her to develop attractive, colorful, and fun illustrations.

Originally from Brazil, Luciana moved to the U.S. in 2002. She has since illustrated a variety of children’s publications and products for clients including Amicus Ink, Chronicle, Crocodile Creek, HasbroToys, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Lerner/Millbrook, McGraw-Hill, National Geographic, Pearson, Penguin Random House, Polk Street Press, and Scholastic. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and sons.
