Happy Book Birthday

by award-winning
Gregory Barrington

(Harper Collins)

From award-winning COW BOY IS NOT A COWBOY author Gregory Barrington comes a twist on a fairytale in need of a serious retelling!

In this hilarious spin on the classic “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” story, Goldi meets a boisterous family of bears who destroy her home before she ever set foot on their doorstep.

It’s time for a new (and totally true) narrative that clears Goldi’s name once and for all.

Creator’s Spotlight:
Originally from Chicago, Gregory Barrington now lives at the foot of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado with his just-right family and four dogs that have noses that are too cold and breath that is too hot. While he has seen bears outside his front door, he has never let them into his house.

Gregory’s first book, COW BOY IS NOT A COWBOY (Harper Collins), was the winner of the thirtieth annual Colorado Book Award and received a starred review from School Library Journal.

Informativefascinating… The text makes a compelling case for understanding and caring about Antarctica. Gonzalez’s illustrations provide an intriguing depiction of the setting…. The well-researched text and captivating illustrations work well to convey the importance of conservation.
―SLJ

The 2nd N/F collaboration with Sibert-award winning Suzanne Slade following:

The JLG title received three starred reviews, a Parents’ Choice Gold Award, and was named an Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students K-12.

(Coming 4/23)

Strange but true nonfiction filled with stunning illustrations, fascinating facts, and illuminating, elegant poetry—sidebars and back matter provide more information about octopuses and the specific species in the book.

Illustrator’s Spotlight:
Thomas Gonzalez has been drawing since he was a child in Havana, Cuba. A Spanish speaker, Thomas didn’t know the English language when he migrated with his family to the States, so it became even more natural to express himself in pictures.

Express and impress, we might add!

Gonzalez’s debut picture book, 14 COWS FOR AMERICA, received many starred reviews—SLJ described it as “exquisite”—and made several national bestseller lists, including the NYT, which hailed Gonzalez’s illustrations as “beautifully evocative.”

Big animals sleep, just like you! But where? And how? Let’s take a look at what some big creatures do when you are asleep and the day is through.

Book #1

Realistic watercolor illustrations highlight the animals and, for the night scenes, incorporate the midnight blue introduced on the endpapers. Happy Book Birthday

Written by Katey Howes

Illustrated by
award-winning
Heather Brockman Lee

(Innovation Press)

We all hold the seed of something wonderful inside us, just waiting for the right moment to bloom.

In A POEM GROWS INSIDE YOU, the seed of an idea waits for the rhythm of the rainfall to awaken it, then takes root and begins to grow.

At once a celebration of the deep connection creatives have with their art and an acknowledgement of the courage it takes to let it into the sun, this beautifully illustrated picture book encourages readers to nurture their talents and boldly share them with the world.

“art  (is) … vibrant, blooming …”

A poem in words and image that will plant a poetic verse in its readers …

Katey Howes’ lyrical text will make readers’ hearts dance and want to nurture the bright promising feelings, passions, and love that can sprout through the power and inspiration of nature and self-expression. The soft, simple, and brilliant illustrations by Heather Brockman Lee create movement and emotion from hesitancy, to curiosity, to courage, to then arrive at a burst of creativity.
—Author Michelle Nott
(Letting Our Seeds Sprout)

Read about Heather’s process and learn some behind the scenes tidbits:

“I really loved painting this book—Katey’s words are just wonderful and I would find her phrases repeating in my head as I painted various spreads. And the Innovation Press has been such a fantastic publisher to work with.  I hope you will all enjoy reading and sharing it with children as much as I did illustrating it!”

A book that will encourage all its readers to create, take risks, and let themselves be seen.”
